Nelapattu bird sanctuary is located in Nelapattu village which is a part of Nellore district. The bird sanctuary is a breeding point for spot billed Pelicans. The sanctuary is spread in an area of 459 hectares. The best thing about the sanctuary is that local villagers and the government protect it. The entire area of the sanctuary also encompasses 288 hectares of reserved forest and approximately 88 hectares of unreserved forest. Various species of plants, trees and shrubs are found in these forests.




How to reach Nelapattu sanctuary?

The sanctuary is located at a distance of 50 kms from Nellore and Nelapattu. The place is well connected with state transportation facilities like bus and train. The nearest airport is Chennai and nearest railway station is Sullurpet.


Ideal time to visit the sanctuary

The ideal time to visit the sanctuary is from October to March when the migratory birds arrive in large numbers.
